Why watercolour artists need to learn how to draw

Hey there, Reader!

Over the years, I've noticed a common problem with watercolour artists: They don't know how to draw.

Personally, I believe all watercolourists should develop fundamental drawing skills because those skills are transferable across all art mediums.

So let me share with you a simple but powerful story to illustrate what happens when watercolourists don't have any drawing skills...

You dive into watercolour painting with great excitement and BIG dreams. But as you progress in your watercolour journey, you run into a stumbling block.

In your mind, you visualize beautiful watercolour paintings that are vibrant and expressive. But the problem is that you have no idea how to translate those paintings onto paper.

Essentially, you get stuck when painting the subject matter. The values look too similar. The proportions are off. And the composition is unbalanced because you lack these basic skillsets.

Can you relate? If so, don’t worry, my friend. I'm here to help you solve this problem!

That's why I'd like to share with you a new blog post I've written titled Why Watercolour Artists Need to Learn How to Draw (7 Reasons).

Specifically, this article teaches you about:

  • 7 excellent reasons that explain why knowing how to draw compliments knowing how to paint
  • 7 awesome benefits you’ll experience from developing your drawing and sketching skills
  • The ways in which you might be held back by not taking time to develop your drawing skills

Technically speaking, you don’t need to know how to draw in order to paint with watercolours.

However...

...my intention is to help you understand how learning to draw (even if you only learn the basics) gives you a MASSIVE advantage when it comes to painting with watercolours.

So by the time you’re done reading, you’ll walk away feeling empowered because you’ll know how to take your first steps towards improving your drawing skills and, by proxy, your watercolour paintings!

Talk to you again soon,

Your art instructor,

Miranda
